From the medical point of view the most important free radicals known for the damage that they cause are hydroxyl ions (-OH) and Super Oxide ions. These two oxygen free radicals with their single unpaired electrons can attack any molecule in the cellular structure of the body. Every stable molecule these free radicals attack is in turn converted into free radicals continuing this chain reaction leading to cellular damage. Of the above mentioned two the hydroxyl free radicals cause maximum damage as they split the hydrogen and oxygen in the water molecule.
